Storing Your Jewelry...

What is the best option for storing your jewelry?

Jewelry should be kept in a clean and dry place, such as a jewelry box or case that is fabric lined. If you do not have the proper cases you may try using an ordinary box, but make sure you wrap each piece individually in soft cloths or tissue paper.
Usually when you purchase a piece of jewelry, you will be given a special pouch or case that is specifically designed with the right finish to protect that particular piece of jewelry. Some will have soft fabric lining while others will have anti-tarnish properties that help to keep the piece looking new for longer. These pouches are the best thing to store your jewelry in, as they have been designed with that particular piece in mind.

Organizing your jewelry.

It is always a good idea to keep your jewelry box neat, uncluttered, tidy and organized, as this will help and maintain a longer life for your pieces. Nobody likes jumbled, tangled pieces....You will also be able to find the piece of jewelry that you are looking for with ease.
To make it easier to keep your jewelry organized, choose a style of jewelry box that has many small compartments to separate pieces in. This will allow you to keep your jewelry pieces away from each other so that they don’t touch or become tangled.

Storing gold jewelry.

Gold is a malleable metal and can be damaged by other jewelry pieces and hard gemstones. To avoid this from happening, you should keep your gold pieces stored by separately in soft cloth bags or the original box that they came in.

Storing Silver jewelry.

If you have silver jewelry, it should always be kept absolutely dry. Your silver pieces should be stored in a tarnish-proof cloth away from exposure to the air. You can even buy special silver storage boxes that are lined with this type of tarnish-proof fabric so that they will keep your silver jewelry safe. Also, you should never let your silver jewelry touch rubber items such as rubber bands, as the sulphur within the rubber will cause the silver to tarnish.

Storing Diamonds.

Because the diamond is the hardest substance on earth it can scratch your other gemstones such as rubies, emeralds and sapphires, if stored with them. Diamonds can also scratch silver, gold and platinum. So to avoid damage to your other jewelry pieces, you should keep your diamonds jewelry separate in a soft cloth pouch.

Storing your everyday pieces.

There are many great options for storing your everyday jewelry pieces, so look at your choices and choose the best one that works for you and the space that you have available.  It can be helpful to separate the jewelry and place in smaller containers, jewelry boxes or even a tray. This will be helpful for you to find what you need right away......Hanging organizers are a wonderful way to store your everyday jewelry     pieces. These organizers will keep all of your jewelry pieces separate and visible

Cleaning Your Jewelry...

Let's start with Silver...

1. Cleaning Your Silver Jewelry
Nobody likes a dull tarnished piece of silver jewelry...You can purchase store bought cleaners, but if you don't have time to run out and you need it cleaned now, try these simple home remedies. Just add a few drops of your favorite mild dish soap with some warm water, using a soft cloth dip in the solution you made and gently rub your jewelry. Once it is clean rinse in cool water and dab dry with a clean dry cloth....Buff jewelry until dry. For heavier tarnished pieces, you can make a mixture of paste using three parts baking soda to one part water. Wet the silver and apply the cleaner with a soft cloth (Try not to use a paper towel as it can possibly scratch and damage your jewelry). Work the paste as best you can throughout the jewelry piece into every nook....When the piece is clean, rinse and buff dry. Do NOT soak silver, this causes the process of tarnishing instead of removing it.

Let's move onto Gold...

2. Make your gold and gems sparkle
From everyday wear your rings take a beating from soaps, lotions and everyday dirt which causes your gold and gems to appear flat and dull. Even your gold chains, pendants and bracelets can get dull and flat from everyday wear. Give your gold a gentle bath by adding a few drops of your favorite mild dish soap into a small bowl of sodium-free seltzer water or club soda....Put the jewelry into a small strainer, and place it in the bowl to soak for about five to ten minutes. stir the jewelry around, removing each piece to go over little nooks, settings and crevices with a soft toothbrush. Place items back into the strainer and rinse under running water; dry with a soft cloth. [BE VERY CAREFUL WITH COSTUME JEWELRY.....For costume jewelry, especially if stones are glued rather than set, dab a cloth into the solution and gently wipe any smudges or grime, then "rinse" with a cloth dampened in plain water. Pat dry and lay the pieces upside down so moisture won't soak into the setting.]

Let's take a look at Pearls...

3. Spruce up those pearls
When you are thinking of pearls, you must handle with care!...Pearls are so porous, and easily lose their luster. Whether they are real, cultured, or faux, they must be cleaned with extreme care. First place your strand of pearls on a soft delicate cloth. Dip a clean, small makeup brush into a mixture of warm water and a little mild shampoo, and go over each pearl in a gentle circular motion. To rinse the pearls use a clean, damp cloth [NOT SOAKING WET]. Let the pearls dry flat to prevent the string from stretching. This no-soak method is also for other porous stones.
